The leaders behind the Vikings. Experienced, passionate, and committed to developing champions on and off the field.
Coach Morris Starr enters his ninth season leading the Lakeside Vikings, bringing with him a wealth of experience that spans 36 years on the sidelines. Before arriving at Lakeside, Coach Starr coached at the collegiate level for eight years and built his high school coaching résumé at Georgia powerhouses LaGrange HS, Griffin HS, and Stockbridge HS. Throughout his career he has developed numerous players who went on to compete at the college level, and several who reached the professional ranks. A former player himself at Catawba College, Coach Starr went on to earn his Master's degree in Physical Education from Western Carolina University. Away from football, he treasures time with his wife Darnise and looks forward to visits from his adult children Alexis and Darius.
Coach Hamilton Sims is a Decatur, Georgia native and a product of the DeKalb County School System, graduating from Tucker High School in 2005. He went on to Newberry College, where he played football for five years, earned his degree in Leisure Services and Sports Management, and claimed two SAC Championships. A proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Coach Sims later earned his Master's in Teaching from Georgia State University. He then spent over a decade as a certified personal trainer working with professional and youth athletes before channeling that expertise into the classroom and onto the sideline. Now in his tenth year of teaching — four of them at Lakeside — and heading into his 11th year coaching football, Coach Sims also serves as the Head Golf Coach and was named DeKalb County Golf Coach of the Year in 2024. He is a devoted husband to Shelisse and father to Hamilton Jr. (10) and Joshua (8). He lives by Philippians 4:13 and Philippians 3:14, and his motto says it all: "Let's not just go through life, but grow through life."
Coach Parker Mallett is a Fayette County native and Sandy Creek High School graduate who went on to play Tight End at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga before launching his coaching career. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Special Education from Gordon State College and currently serves as a 4th Grade Math Teacher at Henderson Mill Elementary School — bringing the same patience and structure to his classroom that he brings to the offensive line. Now in his second year at Lakeside and sixth year coaching overall, Coach Mallett previously coached baseball at Sandy Creek High School from 2020 to 2023, earning a nomination for Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022. A multi-sport athlete and coach, he has played both college football and college baseball and has helped guide multiple high school players to the collegiate level.
Coach Trey Buice brings 14 years of coaching experience to the Lakeside Vikings, including five seasons as Defensive Coordinator. A four-year letter winner at Ball State University from 2005 to 2009, Coach Buice knows what it takes to compete at a high level. By day he serves Lakeside as a Special Education teacher, bringing the same patience, structure, and commitment to his classroom that he demands on the field. His accolades speak for themselves — 2022 Parker Resources Assistant Coach of the Year, 2023 Atlanta Falcons Assistant Coach of the Year, and 2025 DeKalb County Boys Lacrosse Coach of the Year. Coach Buice is dedicated to developing young men who excel both on the field and in the classroom.
Coach Jarvis Love is a true Viking through and through. A former Lakeside DB/WR who graduated in 1997, he helped lead the Vikings to a top-ranked defense and state championship appearance in the 1996–97 season — and he has never stopped carrying that Viking Pride. Now in his fourth year at Lakeside, Coach Love serves as the Lead Sprint Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach for Track & Field, while also coaching the defensive backs and secondary for the football program. He earned his B.A. from Valdosta State University and, outside of Lakeside, focuses on Leadership Training & Development and personal training. Coach Love is passionate about helping athletes maximize their potential while developing the discipline, resilience, and character that extends beyond competition. His daughter London Love now attends Lakeside High School — a consistent Honor Roll Student-Athlete, Junior Viking award recipient for Track & Field, and varsity letter winner in both flag football and track and field.
